What is MLSC Soccer Academy

The MLSC Academy is a soccer program that bridges both recreational and competitive soccer together.
Participants of all skill levels are accepted, no try outs necessary; The Training syllabus will be that of a competitive/ travel team standard.

How does MLSC Soccer Academy differ from the Fall Recreational Soccer Program?

The majority of Recreational programs in the nation are solely volunteer coach based,  games are played internally.
The MLSC Academy will have elements of volunteer assistance, but the program will be taught and guided by a Competitive / Qualified and Experienced Coach

How does MLSC Soccer Academy differ from Travel/ Competitive Soccer?

A Travel/Competitive program is selection based on ability; the cost for such program can be anywhere between $700 - $2000 per year, depending upon the Club / Team / Competition.
The MLSC Academy will be from January-April (with an option of the Extension program Apr-June); The Cost will be a one time payment of $125. But both programs having the same quality of coaching.

What will be the difference between this new Academy 2012 programs from the Previous Academy programs?

This will be our 4^th annual Program, All of our Academies were great in their own way, but every year we strive to improve upon the last.
MLSC Academy 2009 – High School/College players with coaching experience; Games were internal.
MLSC Academy 2010 –College players with coaching experience; Games were played internally and against Outside Teams/programs
MLSC Academy 2011 – Some Experienced/Qualified Coaches; some College players with coaching experience; Games were played internally and against Outside Teams/programs
MLSC Academy 2012 – A Head Coach (Experienced/Qualified & Current Competitive Coach) for each *grouping; An evaluation Report Component for Fitness, Technical and Tactical Awareness; Games will be in a league format against other Programs
*The will be one head coach for every 4 groups; there will be 10 kids per group. Each grouping will be similar (age / ability).

 

What’s the difference between a volunteer coach and a volunteer Assistant?

A volunteer coach (usually with no prior soccer playing and/or coaching experience) will teach the players/team.
The MLSC Academy 2012 will need volunteer assistance that will assist the Head Coach on our training syllabus, encouraging the kids, giving positive feedback and encouragement.

 

I am interested in becoming a volunteer assistant, but I have no soccer training.
You do not need any prior playing/coaching experience; there will be a volunteer assistance Syllabus meeting/training prior to start of program.

There will be a 50% discount for your child(rens) registration by becoming a volunteer assistance.
Our Volunteer Assistants will be the backbone of a successful program, be part of your child’s sporting progression.

Tell me more about the Head Coaches.

Our Head Coaches are not only Qualified and Experienced Coaches, but they are Mentors, Leaders, Reliable First. Our coaches bring a wealth of knowledge to understand your child’s soccer needs and development progression.

Tell me more about the Fitness Component.
This will consist of two; the initial and the final evaluation reports for the following areas:
Endurance, Speed, Strength, Power and Agility
please note: this evaluation form will be applied for 7 year olds and older.

Tell me more about the Technical Component.
The evaluations of the Technical Component will be based on: Passing, Dribbling skills, turning, running with the ball, shielding, shooting, heading, juggling, and Goal Keeping (saving and distribution).
Please note: heading will only be evaluated for 10 years and older

Tell me more about the Tactical Component.
The evaluations of the Tactical Component will be based on: running without the ball, supporting fellow teammates, team orientated awareness.

How does the initial and improved evaluation report benefit my child and Me?
The Initial Report will be given out within the first two weeks of the program (once the initial testings are conducted) The program now aims to improve upon the initial results in all components, plus give nutritional and body advice sheets. The Final Evaluation will show improvements based on our training syllabus plus we will give a continued improvement plan/ strategy for parent/child future reference.

What is the Training / Game Structure of the Academy 2012?
Training & Game will be hosted at Royal oaks Park; Monday and Wednesdays 6:30pm – 8:00pm / Saturday games (see schedule upon sign up)

Training:
MONDAYS: January 23^rd, 30^th, FEB 6^th, 13^th, 20^th, 27^th, MARCH 5^th, 12^th, 19^th, 26^th & Apr 2^nd
WEDNESDAYS: JANUARY 25^th, FEBRUARY 1^st, 8^th, 15^th, 22^nd , 29^th , MARCH 7^th, 14^th, 21^st , 28^th & APRIL 4^th
Games:
SATURDAYS: FEBRUARY 11^th, 25^th, MARCH 10^th, 24^th APRIL  7^th

What is the youngest age you take?
We enroll from the age of 5 years – 13 years / boys and girls

What is the Cost?
This will be a one time payment of $125
Cash or checks made payable to ‘MLSC’ or ‘Miami Lakes Soccer Club’

Do we get uniforms?
Yes, Uniforms are included in the price; Jersey, Shorts and Socks.

What is the Academy Extension?
This will be a continuation of the Academy program from: April 9^th – June 2^nd / $100

Is there unlimited registrations?
In the previous years, we held an unlimited registration.
This year, for the quality assurance of the program there will be limited space; there is a quota per grouping and once we surpass that there will be a waiting list.

What if the Training or Games are cancelled due to bad weather / conditions?
There will be prior email, phone text sms sent alternatively you can call me at 5pm, so we know if the field are able to be used for training and/or Friday evening in case of cancellation for a Saturday Game.

What would my child expect to gain out of this experience?
-Over 20 training sessions to improve Fitness, Technical and Tactical awareness of Soccer.
-At least 5 scheduled games
- An Initial and Final player evaluation score card for progression
-A chance to socially interact with like minded soccer peers
- A program in a Fun, Challenging and safe environment
-A chance to be selected to the ALL Star team to play against our Travel Team
- A chance to be selected to try out with our Travel Team
- A Completion medal

How many kids do you expect to continue on to Travel / Competitive?
This varies upon the specific needs of our current travel teams and also the skill and commitment level of the young participant.
